VW Key Fob CR2025: The Thinner 20 mm Coin
CR2025 is the thinner 20 mm VW coin. Use it only when the cover or old cell is stamped CR2025.
CR2032 and CR2025 sizes, how to open a VW key fob, and what to try when a new cell does not work.
Battery sizes is the shelf for the two coins that actually show up in a Volkswagen remote. A CR2032 is 20 mm across and 3.2 mm thick. A CR2025 is the same width and 2.5 mm thick. Both are 3-volt lithium cells, and the thinner one will rattle in a well molded for the thicker one. The thicker one can hold a CR2025 cover open. CR2016 is the usual older Toyota coin and not the VW default. CR2450 is a wider, taller coin and does not sit in these wells. A23 and a rechargeable LIR2032 do not belong. Golf VII, some Tiguan Mk2 shells, and the newer Polo are the rows where published lists disagree. Those pages say so. The stamp on the old cell, or the code molded in the cover, wins. This category does not rank brands.

CR2032 and CR2025 share width and voltage; thickness is the whole VW argument. Never stack cells.

VW key coins often last a few years. Replace when range falls or the cluster asks—use the stamped size.

A VW key fob battery is a low-cost CR2032 or CR2025. New fobs and pairing are separate, higher bills.
